Biographical Information
Gail Handler has been connected to children all her life. Beginning at age 3 or 4, she decided she wanted to be a teacher. And so she was, for 30 years. She taught first, third, and fourth grades, as well as Title I Reading classes in grades kindergarten
through seventh. All that time, there was a desire, a dream to write stories for children. Life's ups and downs seemed to keep pushing that dream further away. In 2006, she decided she'd given 30 years to traditional teaching and retirement would bring opportunities to teach in less formal ways. Now was the time to write those stories.
Humor and service to others have always been important parts of Ms. Handler's life. Her father taught her that one could live with any of Life's challenges if you could keep your sense of humor intact. From her mother she learned that caring for and about others not
only made you feel good, it was a way to have purpose in life. One or both of these themes find their way into Ms. Handler's stories. These beliefs continue to be the foundations of her own Life's story.
Although Ms. Handler doesn't have children of her own, she likes to tell people that she's had "close to 400 children, I just sent them home at 3:30 to someone else!"
